Same Version, Different File Size

Sep 13, 2012 at 7:23 PM

Hello,

First of all, great tool.  I ran the 3.2.1 version against 2 different servers and noticed that I had a lot of files that were the identical version but slightly different sizes.

Any idea what would cause these files to be different sizes (usually off by a KB or 2)?

Kind regards,

That usually means the files (dll's) are actually a different version - could be a case of one is debug build while the other is release. Also, .Net assembly version numbers are notorious inaccurate due to developers not actually changing it after making a change.

Best would be to 'export' both versions of the file from both machines and do a windiff compare or something to make sure. The tool has a context menu function 'Export assemblyset to' that will help.

Hope this help.
